American countertenor Corey Hable is celebrated for his captivating stage presence and the rich, Italianate quality of his voice. With a deep love for baroque oratorio and opera among his many passions, Corey has had the honor of interpreting masterpieces such as the alto solos in Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, and Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater alongside prestigious ensembles like the Dream Orchestra of Los Angeles, the Royal Academy of Music, and San Luis Obispo Bach Week.
Throughout his career, Corey has achieved notable successes, including performances as the Countertenor Soloist in Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms with the San Luis Obispo Symphony, as well as acclaimed portrayals of roles like Ruggiero in Handel’s Alcina and the title role in Handel’s Orlando, enchanting audiences with his emotive interpretations and effortless vocal delivery.
In addition to his stage accomplishments, Corey has also excelled in competitive settings, earning recognition as a Finalist in the 8th Annual Opera Ithaca Edward M. Murray International Competition of Voice, a District Winner in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in 2022, as a finalist in the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition in 2023, and as a semi-finalist in the highly competitive Pasadena Vocal Competition in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Beyond his performance endeavors, Corey is also a skilled composer. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Performance and Composition from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, Corey made history as the first student to have his compositions performed by the university’s Symphonic Orchestra and the elite Cal Poly Polyphonics choir. His works, ranging from poignant choral pieces to evocative orchestral works, have graced prestigious venues worldwide, have been featured in venues around the world, including his French chanson “Ophélie III: Et le Poète dix” at the Llangollen Eisteddfod in Wales and his “Psalm 27” at the Coventry Cathedral in England.
Continuing his artistic journey, Corey pursued a Master of Arts degree in Vocal Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he honed his skills under the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Raymond Connell, internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano Caitlin Hulcup, and accomplished and highly-credited repetiteur Joseph Middleton. Supported by the prestigious John Talbott Collender Award, Corey’s time at RAM was instrumental in shaping his artistry and solidifying his love for music and performance.
Today, Corey remains committed to his craft, refining his talent with the guidance of respected teachers and coaches, including Dominic Barberi, Jennifer Rowley, and James Smidt, ensuring that his voice continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.
